Omicron Delta Epsilon

Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE), the international honor society in Economics, was founded in 1963 as a result of the merger of Omicron Delta Gamma (founded 1915) and Omicron Chi Epsilon (founded 1955). The Davidson chapter of ODE was inaugurated in 1966.

Objectives

Among the principle objectives of ODE are:

  • To confer distinction for high scholastic achievement in economics
  • To promote and stimulate interest in economic problems and issues, and
  • To promote fellowship among students and faculty who share a common interest in economic analysis and policy.

Admission Requirements

The minimum requirements for admission for undergraduates are:

  • Completion of 12 semester hours of economics courses
  • Average grade of  ‘B’ in both economics courses as well as in all courses
  • Local chapters can impose more stringent requirements and Davidson College has historically done so.

Recent Facts

In 2000, nineteen students were initiated into the ODE. The minimum Economics GPA requirement for admission was 3.325.

Other Activities

Members of the ODE, and particularly its officers, have taken a strong leadership role in enhancing the experience of economics majors and minors. Members of the ODE provide the core energy and initiative in developing the activities of the Economics Center.

They have done so through their strong support of the Economics Center, co-sponsoring speaking/workshop events with the Center.

In addition, they have taken great initiative in planning a mentor program, to be sponsored by the Economics Center, for junior economics majors and minors.

Members of the ODE are currently developing a plan for the implementation of an online newsletter, which will be managed under the aegis of the Economics Center.
